Joanne Hood - Ballroom Instructor, St. Albert.
Joanne started dancing at the age of 3 when her parents enrolled her in the Tap and Preschool
Ballet classes at the local community center in Winnipeg Manitoba. With the announcement of
her teacher’s retirement 6 years later the decision was made to continue dancing but at a
formal dance facility. There she participated in Tap, Ballet, and Jazz classes and accomplished
her Teachers Degrees in Tap and Jazz and the Pre-Elementary R.A.D. exam. Six years later she
was introduced to Ballroom & Latin dancing. After taking just a couple lessons she was hooked.
Joanne went as a student to the Fred Astaire Dance Studio where the owner approached her
after her first lesson to teach. She excepted and began teaching in the evenings after school.
Following her dreams and passion Joanne over the past 32 years has gone on to win many
distinguished awards including Top Teacher at the North American Ballroom Dance
Championships and the Canadian Professional Rising Star Rhythm Championships. She has
trained with World Championship Ballroom & Latin coaches and has herself coached
Canadian Amateur Champions.
Joanne is pleased to offer her classes at the St. Albert Ballet Academy and invites everyone
ages 5-95 out for a complimentary group lesson.
